How might we preserve the liveness of an in-person music performance and embody a conductor’s vision during a remote rehearsal?
We shifted to an adjacent performance context - remote collaboration between a conductor and musicians. From our initial user research, we learned that music/audio is a major pain point for remote work. We were interested in a synchronous rehearsal to preserve the liveness (tension, excitement, immediacy of being together) of a musical performance. We were also interested in how gestures could be interpreted into feedback which maintains our initial pursuit of embodiment (giving form to nonverbal language/intention).
